Signed on Comprehensive Partnership Agreement for Regional Revitalization through Agriculture with Date City, Hokkaido

Contributing to the sustainable development and revitalization of local agriculture through the construction of Multi-units Greenhouse

DENSO Corporation (DENSO) and DENSO AgriTech Solutions have signed a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement for Regional Revitalization through Agriculture with Date City, Hokkaido. We will work to promote smart agriculture in Date City, develop and secure human resources for the next generation of agriculture, and promote low-carbon agriculture utilizing local resources.

In recent years, the declining number of farmers and unstable agricultural production due to climate change have become social issues for the global food and agriculture field. With the technologies developed in the automotive field, DENSO is committed to providing new value to the “food and agriculture” under the theme of environment and safety, and trying to contribute across industries.

Through the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement with Date City, DENSO will engage in the development of smart agriculture that realizes year-round cultivation of high-quality crops by applying the climate control technologies developed in the automotive field to greenhouse. DENSO will also contribute to training and securing human resources for the next generation of agriculture by introducing remote cultivation systems through digital transformation. In addition, DENSO will aim to promote low-carbon agriculture that does not rely on fossil fuels, such as using woody biomass, local resource in Date City, as a heat source for greenhouse.

For the realization of these activities, DENSO AgriTech Solutions applied for and was selected for Date City’s public proposal, “Agricultural facilities construction utilizing local resources (tentative name)” in May 2022. In preparation for the start of business in fiscal 2023, DENSO AgriTech Solutions began construction of a multi-units greenhouse (Location: Former Marefu Elementary School site, Crop: Cherry tomatoes) in Date City.

Based on the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement, DENSO and DENSO AgriTech Solutions will strengthen mutual cooperation with Date City to promote regional revitalization centered on agriculture.
